Cleaning Tips

How to remove chewing gum from carpets and fabric: rub ice on the gum to freeze it and scratch off as much as you can with a blunt knife. If this method isn't effective, heat the gum using a hairdryer, then peel off the melted gum wearing a rubber glove.

How to remove candle wax carpets, fabric, upholstery: solidify the wax by pressing ice against it. Rub off the wax with a blunt knife, and then cover what is left with a piece of kitchen paper and iron over the top with a cool iron. Do not touch carpet fibres directly with the iron.

How to clean solid silver cutlery: line a plastic bowl with aluminium foil, shiny side up. Put a mug of soda crystals in the bowl and add hot water. Put your rubber gloves on, drop in the cutlery. Rinse under a hot tap until no soda remains on them. Buff with a micro-fibre cloth.

How to make your windows sparkle: mix 25% vinegar with 75% water. Soak your cloth in the solution and wipe over the windows. Finish off with a piece of newspaper to buff up the windows.
